The greatest problem in the world is poverty. Poverty is a very wide spread problem that influences a lot of people. Even though extreme poverty was greatly reduced since 2010, there are still 1.2 billion people living in extreme poverty. Poverty is the cause of most problems in the world: a poor family might not afford to send their children to school, can only afford sending one child to school(in this case often sending boys instead of girls), or the child has to drop out of school to work to help support their families. So when the child starts to work, receiving zero or little education, their chances of getting a higher paid job is bleak. Chances are, they would grow up being poor, and their children might have to go through what they went through. In this one scenario, child labor, gender inequality, education are all happening at once. If one of the members of this family gets sick, the family wouldn't be able to afford adequate health for the sick member. The reason why the member of this family is sick is probably because the family doesn't have access to clean or safe water- another cause of poverty. Not only is poverty the cause of other problems, it is also a vicious cycle- poor parents give birth to children who are potentially going to be as poor when they grow up. Until now, we still haven’t work out a way to eliminate poverty, it is even common acknowledged that it would be impossible to eliminate poverty (But it can be drastically reduced). Based on these reasons, I believe that the greatest problem in the world is poverty.
